FAQ

What software did you use?
The robots and the environment were modelled and rendered in 3D Studio Max, but the scenes were put together in After Effects with pre-rendered 2D layers to create a special 2.5D vibe.

How long did it take to complete the film?
The first shot was ready in January of 2020, so more than 3 years, but I was working on other things as well in the meantime.

What inspired the story?
I was reading about the Ship of Theseus thought experiment and I had the idea to adapt it to a semi self-conscious robot, how would it react if it were replaced slowly part by part - that question fascinated me and the idea grew from there.

What is the message behind the movie?
The world of Sileo is a silent place. The short film aims to make the audience think through painting a dark but hopeful future, where even if humanity is gone, what we’ve left behind is still trying to bring us back.

What was the biggest obstacle during production?
I actually had to redo a lot of shots and scenes because the short film changed visual style mid production. The reason for this was that the original idea was to have a sort of comic book style visual overhaul on all the images but it turned out to be too time consuming because it had to be applied frame by frame. There are still a few shots in it with the original look.
